Maria Menounos
While caring for her mother, who has stage 4 brain cancer Maria realized she was in the midst of the health challenges that was her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. "I'd experienced lightheadedness when I was on set and had migraines" the actress tells PEOPLE in their exclusive front page story. "My speech became blurred. Additionally, I was having trouble comprehending the prompter on the teleprompter." An MRI showed Menounos to be suffering from a massive meningioma brain tumor that has grown to the size as a golf ball. It was pressing on her facial nerves. Menounos reached an agreement for surgery with her doctor Dr. Keith L. Black the neurosurgeon of her mother and set surgery for the 8th of June. Menounos is now 39 years old. Menounos claims that Dr. Black said, "I am 98 percent convinced that this is a benign condition, but we will not know until we actually get there," During the complex surgery, lasting about 7 hours the doctor. Black was able to eliminate 99.9 percentage of tumor. The result was not cancerous. "He advised that there's about a six to seven percent likelihood that we'll have it come back," she says. But I will take these odds any day. Menounos has returned home from an inpatient stay of six days. She's currently recovering and enjoying time with Litsa, her mother. Litsa's most recent MRI confirms that she's still free of cancer.
